To succeed in a job search, you’re going to need help. To get the help and support to navigate the search and get a job requires openness and sensitivity in your communication and dealings with others.
You’re going to have to become vulnerable. You’ll have to allow yourself to be placed in a position where you may lose the advantage—no matter how small or insignificant.
Some people find that asking for help to prepare for a job search is difficult, especially in writing a resume or cover letter, and in role play of mock interviews.
For those who have been raised to be independent, asking for help seems like an admission of failure or a sign of weakness.
Do you need help in your job search? If so, become vulnerable. When you make mistakes or botch up an interview, own up to them and accept the consequences.
Share your feelings and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Learn to swallow any misplaced pride. You’ll be stronger for having done so.
