One of the first things you should do to be successful in an interview is to determine the interviewer’s personal style. Why?
To determine how you should approach the interview and demonstrate “fit” for the job and company. Many a qualified job candidate has lost a chance to get a job because they alienated the interviewer.
Consider these tips when interviewing with a direct and outgoing interviewer.
Personality Clues
- Vibrant and energetic in both dress and manner.
- If interviewing in his or her office, there are lots of personal touches in the décor.
- Frequently late starting the interview. Seems to lose all track of time. May even answer cell phone calls or text messages.
What to Do
- Be sociable but not overly so.
- Allow the interviewer to do the talking. Do not attempt to out do him or her in any way.
- When you get a chance to speak, be as succinct and to the point as possible.
The bottom line is that this type of interviewer will have to like you before you will be passed on to the next level.
