There’s no such thing as luck and there are no lucky breaks when it comes to a job search. You make your own luck and success by working hard and smart as you consistently follow-through on a job search plan.
Instead of feeling envious of friends who have landed jobs or trying to blame their successes on lucky breaks, keep these two things in mind and you’ll be able to make your own job search “luck”.
- Re-evaluate your job search objectives. Your chances of landing a job are increased by the amount of contacts you make. Do you need to increase the number and frequency of contacts? What about the timing of your job search? What can you do to make it move faster?
- Make your own luck. Learn as much as possible about the job market, your current industry or the one you want to work in. Stretch your mind and think as creatively as possible about how to find the job you want. Don’t allow fear of failure to pollute your mind. If you can envision yourself in a new job and walking the halls of a prospective employer; then with persistence and hard work you can make it happen.
