If you agree that you can’t complete your job search alone; then a mastermind group may be a great way to achieve your goals.
Simply put, a mastermind group is a collection of three or more like-minded people who join together to accomplish a definite purpose.
Each member benefits from the mastermind group by contributing their knowledge, expertise and effort so that group goals and objectives are realized.
To start a job search mastermind group, consider these guidelines:
- Keep the group small—no more than six members. Why? So that adequate and appropriate attention can be paid to each member’s needs and to ensure that all members actively participate.
- At the first meeting, set ground rules and guiding principles for how members will treat each other, for confidentiality and how conflict will be handled. Agree on how new members will be added to the group as well as what to do if a member leaves the group.
- Schedule meeting dates, times and locations. Prepare a formal agenda in advance of each meeting and record meeting notes as agreed.
- Keep discussions focused on job search techniques, resources, tips and advice. Avoid discussing controversial subjects that are unrelated to the group’s purpose or those that may disturb the cooperative spirit of the group.
- Keep an open mind during discussions. ALL members must be willing to be open to out of the ordinary suggestions and recommendations for conducting a job search. Use good brainstorming principles when discussing alternative job search approaches.
Job search mastermind groups can be fun and rewarding. At the very least they are a great way to network. Get more information on mastermind groups here.
