Life can be so full of busyness and toil. There’s this constant pace at which each person moves. The tempo varies from individual to individual and is relentless; making quiet resting places hard to pin down.
In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, God blesses us with many quiet resting places to renew and refresh our weary souls and bodies, and to create intimacy that can only be found in communion with Him.
The Blessing of Renewal
The blessing of renewal can be found in REST for tired bodies through sleep. Sleep allows us to take a well-earned break and set aside the cares and exhaustion of our waking hours.
Through sleep, God, “beds us down in lush meadows and finds quiet pools for us to drink from” (Psalm 23:2 – The Message).
The Blessing of Refreshment
The busier we are the more we need periods of quiet refreshment–not recreation, which in today’s world, ends up being even more stressful and frantic than the normal hard work we regularly perform.
God has provided time for quiet refreshment through a break in the week’s routine. This break is called a Sabbath rest–a day of restoration for both the body and soul. On the Sabbath, we can be still and settle down from the week’s activities to recharge run-down batteries. It’s a time to catch our breaths and allow God to prepare us for the next segment of life’s journey.
The Blessing of Communion
Quiet resting places are ultimately found in communion with Christ. Worship, praise, prayer, devotions, moments of silent reflection and meditation, and Scripture-reading are places to receive the blessing of communion.
These times of special intimacy with The Father revive our drooping spirits and draw us closer to Him. Even when life throws curve balls of trial and adversity, communion with the Father through His Holy Spirit comforts and guides us, and makes us feel secure.
