Living Your Calling Moment by Moment

Christian career, christian careers, Christian career tools, career guidance from the bible, godly relationships, prayer for career guidance, what does the bible say about careers, Christian career resources, job-seeker, job search, Christian jobs, career planning, career change, career assessmentMany Christians have a one-sided view of what God means by a “calling”.

They think it is something God has designed specifically for them to do for the rest of their lives, and if only they could find out what it is, they would be anchored securely in the center of God’s will.

I used to have such a one-sided view. After my father died, my sister and I struggled with what to do with our mom who has dementia. We thought we might have to put our “callings” on hold, and wondered if we would ever get to “do” anything God had specifically designed us to do.

But God changed our “calling” mindsets. After much prayer, reflection and a study of His word, we concluded that “calling” is for the moment–it’s in the moment that God reveals His purpose and prepares to minister through us to others.

For example, my sister learned that her “calling” is to be with our mom–in the moment, and to take care of her by utilizing everything she knows and the gifts that God has given her to provide a comfortable home environment, where my mom can experience true love through the practical things.

God takes full responsibility for the person whose life is fully devoted to Him. He is glorified by my sister’s loving care of my mom as she fulfills her “calling”.

When you truly understand what it means to be “called” by God…when you respond in faith and trust, you will learn that it is what He “calls” you to do at any given moment.
