Most people have good intentions about improving their work relationships, but tend to stop short of putting them into action. Here are three key tips for cultivating work relationships:

Keep your focus on how you can help others achieve and succeed. When you stop concentrating on yourself and start to collaborate with co-workers and leaders, the entire work unit thrives.
- Be consistent in your treatment of others. Your interaction with co-workers and bosses will characterize and label your professional reputation. Treat everyone with respect. Treat everyone you meet with dignity and respect regardless of their status. Resist the urge to put down others to make you look great.
- Develop a positive mental attitude about people. Building relationships is hard work. Look for similarities instead of differences. Find points of agreement and search for things in each individual’s personality that complement your style.
